Washer/Dryer Renewal Service: Washing Machine Mold Removal and Dryer Lint Cleaning
Black spots inside the rubber door seal of a front-load washer are mold, Rich says, and they're extremely hard to scrub off. We replace the gasket, disinfect the washer and clean the lint out of the dryer in one visit.

The short answer
Way Beyond Cleaning's Washer/Dryer Renewal Service deals with a moldy, musty front-load washer by replacing the rubber door gasket with a new factory seal, then disinfecting many of the hidden areas of the washer where mold and mildew grow. The same visit cleans the dryer: the panels come off and we vacuum the lint out of the filter port and the front and back of the machine. Pricing starts at $379, after-care kit included. Call (203) 872-5926.
What we do
Open a front-load washer and look at the thick rubber gasket around the door. Pull back the bottom of it. If the inside is covered in black spots and stains, that's mold, and Rich, who owns Way Beyond Cleaning, will tell you it's extremely difficult to remove. In his experience every front-loader develops mold, mildew and odors over time.
That's why we replace the gasket. We take the washer's panels off and fit a new factory gasket seal, then run a disinfection process that cleans many of the hidden areas of the washer. The new seal is meant to get rid of the trapped mildew and the musty smell. Rich's aim is laundry that comes out clean and fresh.
The dryer is part of the same visit. Its panels come off too, and we vacuum and clean the front and back of the machine to remove as much lint as we can. Then we wipe both machines down so they look as clean as they can.
Rich's goal is that you only ever need this service once. You keep an after-care kit, at no extra cost, and we help you get to know your machines so you're ready for years of front-loader ownership.

What does the Washer/Dryer Renewal Service include?
One visit covers both machines: new gasket and disinfection for the washer, lint clean-out for the dryer, plus the after-care kit.
A new factory door gasket
We take the washer's panels off and install a new factory gasket seal in place of the moldy one. It's designed to clear out the trapped mildew and musty smell.
Disinfection of the hidden areas
Once the new gasket is in, a disinfection process cleans many of the hidden areas inside the washer where mold and mildew develop.
Careful teardown and refit
We handle the tricky panel teardowns and high-tension springs, aiming for a watertight, balanced fit on both the washer and the dryer.
Dryer lint clean-out
The dryer's panels come off and we vacuum the filter port, clearing hidden lint bottlenecks, then clean the front and back of the machine.
Airflow to the wall
We make sure air flows from the dryer to the point where its duct attaches to the wall. A new duct is available at a modest cost if yours is no longer usable.
Both machines wiped down
We wipe down the washer and the dryer so they look as clean as they can.
The after-care kit, included
Products to keep the washer clean and dry, and an after-care cleaning routine to reduce the chance of mold and mildew coming back. No extra cost.
One visit for both
The washer's hygiene and the dryer's cleaning and safety check are handled in a single service visit.

Hi, this is Rich with Way Beyond Cleaning, and this is a gasket from a front-loader washing machine. You can see by the brown staining on there that this is what mold looks like when you're trying to clean it. And it just won't go away.
Most of the time with these front-loaders, you have to replace the rubber gasket, and that's what Way Beyond Cleaning is all about. We've got a new service called the Washer Dryer Refresh, and the Washer Dryer Refresh is the replacement of the actual gasket, as well as cleaning the whole interior of the washing machine and all of the components where mold and mildew develop.
As an adjunct part of this service, we also address your dryer. We clean at the vent, we clean all of the dust that's accumulated, and also the filter area, and we also wipe down your washer and dryer so that they look as clean as they can possibly be.
So if this is interesting to you, I hope you'll take advantage of it. You can reach us at 203-872-5926. Thanks, and have a great day.
The Washer Dryer Refresh in the video is the same service as the Washer/Dryer Renewal. The written scope on this page is the one that applies: we clean the dryer and make sure air flows to where its duct meets the wall, and the vent system behind the wall isn't included.
How does a washer and dryer renewal visit run?
One call, one visit: the washer first, then the dryer, then the after-care.
Call and describe your setup
Call (203) 872-5926. Say whether it's a side-by-side pair, a stacked unit or a custom built-in, because stacked and built-in machines get a custom estimate.
The washer
Panels off, the old gasket out, a new factory gasket in, then the disinfection of many of the hidden areas.
The dryer and the after-care
Dryer panels off, lint vacuumed out, airflow checked to the wall and both machines wiped down. You keep the after-care kit and we go over how to keep the washer clean and dry.
What isn't included?
The dryer vent system and the ductwork behind the wall aren't part of this service.
This service cleans the dryer itself. It doesn't include the dryer vent system or the ductwork that runs behind the wall, and we don't guarantee the condition of that ductwork. What we do make sure of is that air flows from the dryer to the point where its duct attaches to the wall.
If the duct behind the dryer is damaged or no longer usable, we can provide a new one at a modest cost. Stacked washer-dryer units and custom built-in appliances need a custom estimate, so mention them when you call.

How do you know if your washer gasket has mold?
Pull back the bottom of the rubber door seal. Rich's rule: black spots and stains inside it are mold.
Open the washer's main door and find the big gray rubber gasket around the opening. Pull back the bottom of the loose part of the gasket to see its inside. If it's covered in black spots and stains, Rich's verdict is that it's mold, and mold that's extremely difficult to remove.
Our step-by-step guide to checking a front-load washer gasket for mold covers the check in more detail, along with the habits that help keep a gasket dry.
Why is the dryer part of the service?
Lint restricts airflow and stretches drying times, so the dryer gets cleaned in the same visit.
Lint doesn't only collect on the screen you empty after a load. Rich's point is that it builds up inside the dryer too, where it restricts airflow, stretches drying times and shortens the machine's life. Clearing the hidden bottlenecks at the filter port is meant to cut drying times and reduce fire hazards.
Rich also designed the service with running costs in mind: restoring a proper door seal on the washer and proper airflow in the dryer is meant to reduce energy draw and premature wear on both machines.
Who is this service for?

- Anyone who's found black spots inside the washer's door seal
- Households whose dryer is taking longer to dry a load

Call (203) 872-5926Washer/Dryer Renewal: questions people ask
Why does my front-load washer smell musty?
Look at the rubber door gasket first. Rich's experience is that every front-loader develops some mold, mildew and odor over time, and the gasket is where to check. The step-by-step check is in our gasket guide, linked further down this page.
Can you just clean the mold off the gasket?
Once the gasket is covered in black spots and stains, Rich finds the mold extremely difficult to remove, and most of the time the gasket has to be replaced. That's why this service fits a new factory gasket instead of scrubbing the old one.
Do you clean the dryer vent?
We clean the dryer itself and make sure air flows to the point where its duct attaches to the wall. The vent system and the ductwork behind the wall aren't included, and we don't guarantee their condition. If the duct behind the dryer is no longer usable, we can provide a new one at a modest cost.

Yes, on a custom estimate. Tell us about the setup when you call (203) 872-5926.
What comes in the after-care kit?
Products to help keep your washer clean and dry, and an after-care cleaning routine designed to reduce the chance of mold and mildew coming back. It's included at no extra cost.
