Which parts of a shared Shelton office need cleaning most often?
The kitchen and the restrooms. Everyone in a shared office uses them, whichever company they work for, so they get dirty fastest and they're where people notice a missed visit first. Desks come next, and a private office with its door shut needs the least.
Say your office is in one of the office parks along Bridgeport Avenue, the corridor beside Route 8. It might be a coworking floor, a suite that two or three small firms split, or a company floor where staff share desks on the days they come in. We're based in Fairfield, a short drive away, and our Shelton service area page covers the rest of what we do in town.
Way Beyond Cleaning is an owner-run cleaning company, and shared office environments and shared workspaces are on the list of spaces we clean.
Who looks after which area in a shared office?
Settle it room by room before anyone starts. The shared rooms need one person who books the cleaning, and each company needs to know what's left to it. Three setups come up in shared offices, and the effort lands in a different place in each.
| Your setup | Rooms to clean most often | Desks | Who books the cleaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coworking floor with drop-in desks | Kitchen, restrooms and high-touch points | Your choice: on the scope or left to members | The operator running the space |
| Suite shared by two or three small firms | The shared kitchen and restroom | On the shared scope or left to each firm | The firm on the lease, or all firms by agreement |
| Company floor where staff share desks | Kitchen, restrooms and meeting rooms | Shared desks, if they're on the scope | The office manager |
If you run a coworking floor with drop-in desks
The operator owns the cleaning, because members come and go and nobody else will. The kitchen and restrooms take the heaviest use, and the busiest days should set the schedule. If the floor fills up midweek and goes quiet on Fridays, the visits can follow that pattern instead of one fixed rhythm. Ask members to clear hot desks before they leave, so the cleaner can wipe every surface rather than working around laptops and mugs.
If two or three small firms share one suite
Somebody holds the lease, and that firm is the natural one to book cleaning for the shared kitchen and restroom. The others pay their share however you've agreed. Each firm's own desks and offices can go on the same scope or be left to that firm. Write down which, because the shared fridge and the restroom are where things slide when nobody is named.
If your own staff share desks on the days they come in
Here the office manager books one cleaner for the whole floor. Shared desks need wiping on each visit, since different people sit at them through the week. A meeting room that's booked all day needs more attention than one that's used twice a week.
What should the cleaning scope list for a shared office?
Every room the cleaner is expected to touch, and the tasks in each. A scope for a shared office may include the reception area and entry, offices and workstations, conference rooms, the restrooms, the kitchen or break room, floors and carpets, trash and liner replacement, dusting of accessible surfaces, high-touch points and interior glass.
A few things get missed in shared spaces because no single company owns them. Agree who keeps the shared kitchen tidy between visits, who supplies the soap, paper towels and bin liners, and how the cleaner gets in when the first company to arrive isn't yours. Our guide to commercial cleaning contracts goes through what else to put in writing.

How often should a shared office in Shelton be cleaned?
Often enough that the kitchen and restrooms never look like the end of a long day, which in a busy shared space can mean daily or several visits a week. We plan schedules around building use, foot traffic, business hours, budget, priority areas and changes in occupancy. That can be daily, several times a week, weekly or a custom schedule.
Occupancy moves more in a shared office than anywhere else. A coworking floor that signs up new members, or a suite that takes on a third firm, puts more people through the same kitchen. The schedule should move with it, so check it whenever the headcount changes.
Can a shared office be cleaned outside business hours?
In many cases, yes. It depends on the property, on how the cleaner gets in and on the work involved. A shared office runs on more than one set of hours, so pick a time when every company in the space has gone home, rather than only yours.
How is a shared office different from a whole multi-tenant building?
A shared office is the inside of one space, where several companies or people use the same rooms. A multi-tenant building adds a lobby, hallways and common restrooms outside the suites. If that's your question, our post on who cleans the common areas and the suites in a multi-tenant office building covers how that split usually works.
What does shared office cleaning cost in Shelton?
Recurring office cleaning starts at $150 per visit for a smaller office. The number for your space depends on its size, the tasks in each room and how many visits you want. Our office cleaning page covers the service, and the office cleaning cost guide explains what moves the price.
